Pipe welding is the process of joining lengths of polyethylene pipe into a continuous, fully sealed pipe string. Butt fusion welding heats and fuses the pipe ends together under controlled pressure to form a joint as strong as the pipe itself, while electrofusion uses purpose-made fittings with integral heating elements to join pipe in tie-in locations, confined spaces or where alignment prevents the use of a butt welder.
For directional drilling projects, having welding capability in-house means the pipe string can be prepared and tested alongside the bore rather than waiting on a separate crew, which reduces standdown time between drilling and pullback. Pipe welding is also available as a standalone service to civil and utility contractors.
